It was breaking news all over; the newest invention, which would change the world. Unfortunately the inventors didn’t know how they were changing the world. They created what they thought was a teleporter. A simple jump that could take you from one city to another within seconds. The image on the T.V screen was so familiar it was disturbing, as though I had seen that view time and time again. Shane seemed to think so too. He was thinking about it just as hard as I was until he gasped loudly breaking the silence making me jump. He ran off to fetch something from his room without saying a word. So I sat there waiting for him when an Owl landed at the window sill. I smiled at it, loving my connection with the animals. However this time he brought bad news. He told me that we were too late and because of that I would have to make the ultimate sacrifice. He flew off leaving me there frozen on the couch, thinking of his news. When Shane got back the news got worse. We had indeed seen the teleporter from T.V. in our very first vision; we knew that it meant all those creatures were going to come through it. The scientists must have made a mistake building it and created a portal to some weird hell dimension. I knew what we had to do and told Shane, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him of the Owl’s prediction (owls have the most accurate predictions of all animals, don’t ask me why). Shane and I packed our rucksacks and snuck out in the dead of night. We knew it was our responsibility to deal with the future crises. We were the only ones who knew about it and the only ones with abilities to stop it. Every day we practiced and grew stronger. My abilities had developed, and I could now influence nature. The strongest trick I could do was cause a minor earthquake. Shane admired my ability but I knew it would be futile against the monsters we had to face. Shane was growing stronger all the time which sort of made me feel helpless. I was beginning to understand what sacrifice I would have to make, except I didn’t think I could do it. Our relationship had grown, we were much closer now and I didn’t want to loose him; the only good thing I’ve had in a long time. We reached the site of the teleporter on the day they were going to test it out. This meant there was a huge crowd. Thousands of spectators, with no way of going unnoticed. There goes our secret. The machine began to power up as we ran to the center of the crowd, towards the controls. The portal flickered to life, the sky turned dark and cloudy. It was time! “See if you can shut it off! I’ll try to hold them back” he yelled at me. I reached the control panel as he stood in front of the portal. It shouldn’t be him there. I’m the one who has to make the sacrifice. The storm came out of nowhere, lightning shot towards the crowd which was now running in every direction heading for cover. The scientists had abandoned their post, so much for any help shutting it off. I had turned every switch and pulled every lever I could find, nothing seemed to have any affect. The portal had a life of its own and the creatures were pouring into our world. It was our worst vision coming to life! A spark of lightning shot flashbacks across my eyes, every warning the animals gave me was about this moment. It all made sense now… The only way to stop the creatures from coming out of the portal was for someone to go into it. My ultimate sacrifice… Shane couldn’t hold them off any longer and every second I wasted, thousands of those monsters flew into our world. I wouldn’t get to say goodbye to Shane, or even tell him how I felt, even though I think he knows. I ran towards the machine. I tore of my necklace (the one Shane gave me for my birthday), as I ran by him, I tossed it to him, calling his name. His eyes widened as he saw me running towards the portal. “What are you doing!?” He yelled after me. I ignored him, knowing that if I turned to look at him, I wouldn’t turn bac
k. I had to do this, I had no choice. “NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” I could hear him yell after me as I jumped into the screen of the portal. I felt it close behind me. Then excruciating pain. Then nothing… I was in their world now… The creatures’ world!
